Ruth the Sleuth and the Messy Room was the 30th story I had written and the second to be published as a book. In October 2010 I saw a call for submissions on the SCBWI discussion boards from a new publishing company that sounded like a fit for my work. I submitted Ruth the Sleuth and the Messy Room and heard back seven months later that the publisher was interested.
Other published work:
Hip-Hopping Books - my first e-book! - is part of Schoolwide inc.'s digital library, available since spring, 2015.
The Library is the Perfect Place, appeared in the February 2010 LibrarySparks Magazine, in their web resources. Go to "previous web resources" to access this story which is great for librarians to read, especially at the beginning of the school year, to set up behavior expectations and tell all that a library has to offer.

Ruth the Sleuth and the Messy Room
llustrated by Kimberly Soderberg,
Ever wake up and not know where you are? Not sure if your homework is due today or tomorrow? Can't remember if you have hockey practice tonight? Forgot your homework at your mom's and now you're at your dad's and can't get it done? Welcome to the world of Mark and Evan...ever since their parents' divorce their lives and schedules have been scrambled leaving them feeling confused, frustrated, and even a little angry with their parents for getting a divorce. But with time, effort, and the assistance of Mark's parents and teacher, Mark gets a little more organized, and most importantly, starts to come to terms with his parents' divorce.
Where Am I Sleeping Tonight?- A Story of Divorce is the first of my manuscripts that was bought by a publisher. There was a request for stories about divorce, bullies, family issues etc. by Boulden Publishing in the SCBWI Bulletin. I sent the manuscript by e-mail. I heard the great news only six weeks later. "Is this still available?" publisher Ken Harrison asked. We spoke on the phone and I got an offer in the mail a short time later.

Then in July 2013 I found out that Ruth the Sleuth and the Messy Room was selected to receive the Children's Literary Classics Seal of Approval. The CLC Seal of Approval is a designation reserved for those books which uphold the rigorous criteria set forth by the Children's Literary Classics review committee, a team comprised of individuals with backgrounds in publishing, editing, writing, illustration and graphic design.
